Rectangular in form, the bottom and the lid of this small box are made of copper, while the sides are brass. The box is a feast of engraving, with images of small groups of people on the top and bottom and dense foliage on the sides. The scenes on top and bottom are presented in arched frames, outside of which are a pair of puti floating in a leafy vale. The identity of the figures is unclear, but the frames exhibit lively behavior. The scene on the underside seems more complete; its cast includes a man brandishing a large glass (perhaps beer or wine) and a robed figure holding a cross. Text beneath the central panels probably interprets the scenes, but we’ve not been able to read them.

In fine, functioning condition with wear appropriate to the material and its age.
