If you've ever been to our Furniture Gallery, you've seen the 17th century chair maker tile on the left, above. A Windsor chair maker from New Hampshire found it on our website and wrote to ask if our tile was for sale (it isn't). Recently, he sent us an image of the tile on the right, a slightly later rendering of the same subject, which he now owns.
It's always fun to compare multiple tiles based upon the same subject matter. In this instance, the later chair has two rounded slats and finials, rather than the three double-arched slats of the earlier one. The costumes of the two woodworker differ similarly in several details of styling. For an earlier study of a set of tiles we once owned, click here.
