An early bronze mortar and pestle in old, untouched surface

Deeply patinated by age, this heavy piece exudes character, from the small nick in its rim to the loss of a small section of its base. The pestle has a decorative ring around its midpoint and is a bit lighter in color, suggesting that it might not be the original mate to the mortar.
