The tile depicts a shepherd, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and playing a wind instrument while walking about his field. A single sheep can be seen in the distance; it appears quite unmoved by the music.
The tile is mounted to a square of Masonite, which is secured into a cast iron frame, a combination suited for use as a hot plate. The tile has cracked vertically, but its attachment to the Masonite is very secure. There is a small chip at the upper left corner.
Dutch, ca. 1750 and later
Tile dimensions: 5 ⅛” X 5 ⅛”; overall height, including base: 1”
Price: $35
