A simple bent-wood box fitted with a lid that is held in place by a pair of notched vertical posts, which bend outward to release the lid.

The bent wood is sewn together using a thin length of splint.

The design in the sides and lid is typically burned into the wood with a hot poker.

This type of box has ancient roots; it was used to store food and other valued commodities.
