An excellent example of the form and an exceptional decorative object.

The center of the dish is raised in repoussé, with seven large tulip motifs, alternating with tulip bulb/plant designs, surrounding a double central circle, framed in punchwork. The tulips/bulbs are enclosed in a circle containing what appears to be a Latin text, and the broad rim is enhanced by punchwork decoration of double V shapes, each with a fleur-de-lis pendant all around.

The dish is in very good condition, marred only by a single hole in the rim, probably made so that the dish could be suspended from a nail or a hook.

Continental, ca. 1680

Diameter: 15 ½”; Height: 1½”
