Originally intended as a primer for school children, and now exceedingly rare, these “books” consisted of a document of some sort, protected by a sheet of transparent animal horn. This horn book contains the letters of the alphabet, with the exceptions of “J” and “U”.

Very good condition, with a few voids where tiny bits of the dry, stitched leather pocket have been dislodged. The homespun fabric may be used as a hanger, but can easily be removed.

English, 18th century

Dimensions: 3 ½” X 6”
