Glorious brass repousse charger

This luscious charger was created in fine brass and is decorated with highly detailed swirls and flowers. It is unlike an alms dish, as there is no wire-wrapped rim. It has the presence of a plate with a 2 ¼” rim, then slopes down to the middle of the plate which has a raised center. The design in the center is an eight-petaled flower surrounded by four swirling floral motifs with hatching in the central flower.

The next design is a dog-tooth pattern, before leading to more hatch-marked floral designs. The wide rim has borders of angular v’s and double arched designs, centered around eight hatched four-petaled flowers in swirling leaves. The diameter is 12”.

Purchased in England, and unmarked, the country of origin is unknown.

18th century or earlier.
