Lignum vitae mortar with associated pestle

A large mortar in pleasingly worn condition.

Its slender waist is defined by turned bands above and below, and there is a pair of subtle scribe lines at the base.

Old dry surface, with shrinkage cracks.

The associated pestle is of comparable age.
