A tall, hexagonal brass candlestick

A tall, fluted brass candle holder on a scalloped, tiered base. The paneled shaft rises through a narrow knop and then widens before becoming slender again beneath the shaped candle socket. The stick was cast in two parts with a large screw at the bottom of the shaft which joins it to the base.

Originally, this candlestick was plated with silver. The silver plating has worn off or has been removed, and the surface is today a warm brass. Traces of the original silver can be seen in some of the hollows and under the base.

French, ca. 1740

Height: 8 ¾”; Diameter of base: 4 ¾”
