An 18th century brass candlestick with cut card base

The elaborately knopped and ringed shaft rises from a stepped cut-card base. Inside the shaft, but inoperative today, is a twist-up ejection mechanism. A nearly identical candlestick is pictured in Eloy Koldeweij’s The English Candlestick, 1425 – 1925, CAT. 87, where it is attributed to George Grove (Active 1748 – 1768) in Birmingham.
