An elegant example of this early 18th-century form with effectively detailed stems and characteristic bases with twelve “petals”. The stems of these candlesticks were cast in two halves, which were then soldered together. They were then spun, and the tenons cast in their bottoms were inserted into holes in the bases, after which they were peened tight. Evidence of these two processes can be seen in the shafts themselves and in the concave undersides of the bases. The hole in the underside of the shaft suggests that these sticks were originally fitted with push-up rods. Their absence does not diminish the utility of these lovely candlesticks.

Excellent condition.

English, ca. 1720

Diameter of base: 4 ½”; Height: 8 ¼”
