A pair of early Nuremberg taper candlesticks

We found these small brass taper sticks on a recent visit to Amsterdam.

Each has an attractively shaped base, which rises to a shallow drop pan. Each of the short, turned shafts screws into the base and supports a fine, deep candle socket.

The exceptionally fine metalwork and the proud form are characteristic of the work of Nuremberg metalsmiths.

They are in very good condition, except for a small tear in the base of one.

German (probably Nuremberg), ca. 1650

Height: 3 ½”; Diameter of base: 2 ¾”
