A lovely and quite rare (We’ve never seen another) group of 17th-century Dutch tiles with polychrome flowers inside a square frame rotated diagonally.
While the colors are sparing and confined to details in the otherwise blue and white face, the overall effect is utterly charming.
We came across these tiles in a shop in Amsterdam and no one in the shop could tell us anything about them other than confirm their age. Once back at home, we found several examples in the study Dutch Tiles by Dingeman Korf; all Korf’s examples date from the mid-17th century, but he gives no factory or regional attribution.
Dutch, ca. 1650
Each tile is 4 ¾” square and approximately ½” thick.
Price for the set of four: $375
