A late 18th century tea box of sarcophagus form with a bone escutcheon and a pyramidal lid. Inside are two narrow bins for tea, each having a rectangular lid with a small brass knob at its center. Between the bins is a compartment containing a cut glass mixing bowl. The lid is hinged with a pair of brass butts and its underside is covered with light blue paper. The caddy stands on small, squat wooden feet. The case was made of straight-grained deal, or Continental pine, and then veneered with this beautifully figured mahogany and edged with a lighter, banded inlay.
