An exceptionally handsome masher in old paint

A narrow, turned handle terminates in a chunky turned ball. The ball and the turnings just below it carry remnants of the paint that once covered the whole piece. A few cracks and a chip at the stepped end attest to its history. The wood appears to be maple.
