A pair of carved wood Buddhistic lions (foo dogs)

Carved wood foo dogs are far rarer than their ceramic counterparts, and this pair is particularly engaging, from their popping eyes to their threatening teeth, to the simple carved decoration of their oblong bases.

Chinese, probably Qing Dynasty (ca. 1640 – 1912)
