An elmwood mortar and pestle

Turned for utility and quite plain, the mortar was formed with little nuance from a heavy block of hardwood. For decoration it has only five rings at its bottom, albeit a deep, rounded one near the top. The pestle is turned with minimal detail, and is original to this mortar.
With an age split from top to bottom, a small chunk broken out from its base, and a dry, untouched surface, this is a great shelf piece.
Probably American, early 19th century
Diameter of mortar: 5 ⅝”; Height: 6”; Length of pestle: 9 ⅛”
Price: $145
