Octagonal, stepped bases, with gadrooning around the upper step support gracefully formed shafts, which were cast in two longitudinal halves and then joined together flawlessly, leaving a nearly invisible seam from bottom to top. The shafts are impressively designed, with a knop near the bottom, a baluster above it, and a shaped candle socket at the top. The knop and the bottom of the socket are gadrooned, like the base, and the baluster and the upper part of the socket are engraved brilliantly. The octagonal form of the base is continues through the entire length of the shaft.
Probably French, 1750 - 70
Dimensions: the bases measure 4 ⅞” from side to side; the overall height is 8 ½”.
