A small box carved from a single block of mahogany

Formed by an experienced woodworker using only a plane, a chisel, and a drill, this is an fascinating wooden object. Smooth inside and out and slightly out of square, the box was treated with a reddish pigment, vestiges of which remain today. Several indentations caused by a drill bit can be seen on the bottom of the inside, and the surface has scattered ink stains.
