When we purchased this piece a few years ago, it sat upon a mid-seventeenth century court cupboard. While appropriate to the cupboard beneath it, we decided to sell the larger piece by itself. Now, years later, we’re offering the appended piece for sale.
A product of the late 17th or early 18th centuries, it is constructed like the court cupboard upon which it sits in the photograph above. The frieze, carved with a series of demilunes, is supported by two turned and carved posts, the façade framing a joined back with four unadorned panels. The side stretchers are also carved, and each side frames three shaped stiles, creating a pleasing framed open space.
Its pristine condition is no doubt attributable to its distance from the damp floor.
English, ca. 1700
