Period Yorkshire backstool

A humble backstool, probably crafted by a country joiner, capturing the style of the period with his lathe (front stretcher, legs, and the small finials that appear to be missing from the top of the crest),

moulding plane (fielded back splat, rear stiles and seat surround), chisel (finials), and smoothing plane (everything else that shows).

The result, a beautiful, unassuming object, still able to capture the aesthetic of a community centuries after its creation.

Dimensions: Seat: 17-3/4” X 14-3/4”; seat height: 18-3/4”; Overall height: 45-1/2”

English, Yorkshire or Derbyshire, ca. 1700
