Antique oak trestle-base shoe-foot table with swing-legs

An unusually large top sits on a trestle base and opens out by extending one or two gates mounted in the base.

The ends of the trestle are formed by two wide oak boards, each decorated with shaped edges and supported by a shoe foot.

Although not a period form, the table combines the appeal of both the early gateleg and the 18th-century shoe foot form seen frequently in America.

An interesting and very functional design, this rather large table folds down to nearly nothing when not in use for dining.

English, ca. 1900
