Six classic Yorkshire backstools, two with arms, are very fine examples of the form.

Two shaped horizontal splats, carved with leafy sprigs with a subtle scalloped upper edge, span the rear stiles, which terminate in a carved finial.

The base has six turned stretchers: two on each side, one at the front connecting the upper pair, and one recessed for comfort, joining the lower pair, and a simple board stretcher at the rear.

All have plank seats.

Each chair is sturdy and tight – and very heavy; most have minor repairs to be expected in domestic furniture of this age.

The drop finials may be replacements; we surmise, as did the former owners, that a few originals were missing, and someone decided to replace them all!

We’ve elected to leave them alone.

The large reproduction gateleg table (#25712) that these backstools sat around is available as well, and we’re happy to offer an incentive to purchase them together.

Dimensions: Seats: Armchairs: 23-1/2” X 16-1/2”; Sides: 21-1/2 X 15-1/2”; Overall height (all): 40”; Seat height (all) 19”
