Small oak draw table

A pleasing oak withdrawing table with moulded apron and exceptionally prominent turned legs

The base is secured by four wide stretchers near floor level and attractively reinforced by spandrels beneath the apron. The top and the two leaves are constructed with boards contained within a mitered frame. The leaves are meant to be stored beneath the large top; they slide out when a larger table is required.

While this table was made in the 17th century, there is evidence that it has been made smaller at some time. There are mortises in the side rails that suggest it might have been larger at some point. At this time, it is a convenient size for the average home, nearly doubling in size when needed.
