A fine oak bible box with flat carving on its face featuring eight lunettes in opposition, each containing the same motif.

The background is impressed with fine punchwork, and each group of four lunettes encloses a carved botanical quatrefoil.

A lock and its shaped iron plate are centered at the upper edge.

Other surfaces are left unadorned, and the interior is enclosed by cleats at the ends of the lid.

The original cotter pin hinges failed at one time and have been replaced by small strap hinges.

The box is in fine condition.

English, ca. 1660
