A handsome oak box for the storage of valuables and other possessions.

The face and sides are simply and pleasingly decorated with large demilunes, carved into the surface and decorated with punchwork. The unadorned lid, originally hinged with very fine cotter pins, is now joined to the box with iron strap hinges with beans at their extremes. The lid has cleats at its edges, providing strength and partially sealing the interior. The interior is clean, and the box is in very good condition. There is a small, triangular repair at the left front corner of the lid.

English, ca. 1660 – 80
