A mid-17th century oak backstool in painted leather

A stunning oak backstool with a barley-turned frame. The legs and stretchers of this spectacular stool were shaped by a master turner, and their color is a deeply ebonized brown. The leather upholstery is covered with flowers and other botanic images.

This chair is remarkably similar to a pair in the Franz Hals Museum, Haarlem, the Netherlands (pictured below).
