An outstanding joined coffer, made by an excellent joiner and decorated by a skilled carver, with three arcaded panels on its face. The frieze is decorated with carved demilunettes, while the legs, the lower rail, and the interior stiles are decorated with a running pattern of gouge work.  The relief carving on the arches of the arcades are the most advanced work on the face. The two-plank lid is kept in place by original strap hinges, and the lock and its key are original as well.

The ends of the coffer are fashioned with two small panels in a moulded frame. The three-panel rear is undecorated on the exterior, but the inside of the upper rail, visible when the chest is opened, has a simple beaded moulding planed into its lower edge.

The lid of the till is missing. The original boards comprising the bottom of the chest are supported with later battens.
