Steinway’s “Conservatory” model, recently restored and in excellent condition, in a walnut case with cabriole legs embellished with carved floral designs. The Steinway website describes the Model M as follows: “At 5' 7" (170 cm) in length, the Model M Medium Grand piano's rich tone, responsive action and manageable size makes it perfect for conservatories, and many homes as well.”
This piano was made in 1927, during the Golden Age of Steinway pianos. While the M is still being made today ($65,000), most would agree that the instruments made prior to World War II were the high point of Steinway’s production. We purchased the piano at auction, with the idea that we would sponsor concerts in our new showrooms, providing a local venue for Conway residents. As our thoughts were developing, however, Conway’s live music scene was developing along different lines. It seems now that our vision is redundant, prompting our decision to sell this fine instrument and recoup our investment.
The hammer price of the piano was $5000, and the buyer’s premium raised the cost to $6000. Our other costs included moving the piano to Conway, and a tuning shortly after it arrived five years ago. During that time, it has been in our showroom, which is kept at a comfortable temperature all year.
