A little gem of a coffer, with carving on its face and the upper rails of the sides. Each of the elements of the face is adorned with a singular pattern, from the complex floral pattern of the panels, to another floral motif on the frieze and the interlocked demilunes of the lower rail, to the guilloche and chain patterns of the vertical members. The pattern of the front rails is repeated on the sides, although the panels are left plain. The two-panel plan of the top and back completes the joined structure.
The coffer has a good, dry surface with honest color. The cotter pin hinges are original. There are no repairs or replacements.
English, ca. 1660
