This special little chest with drawers is of simple construction and very attractive design. The door, attached with hand-forged butterfly hinges, has a central panel which is decorated with inset mouldings applied in geometric patterns. The rest of the exterior is undecorated.

Inside are seven small drawers, arranged in pairs with a single wide drawer at the bottom. Each drawer front is decorated with scratched lines between opposite corners, which intersect in the center and define the location of the brass ring pulls. The door is secured by a simple lock and key.

There is a small split at the upper right corner of the door. Its patination suggest that it occurred long ago and was never addressed.

English, ca. 1700
