An exceptionally large example of this form, it can comfortably seat six and, when expanded fully, offers a commodious tabletop for dining.
The table sits on six bobbin-turned legs, two of which swing outward to support the large leaves. The swivel end of each of these two “gates” is joined to the apron with an applied wooden socket and is bobbin-turned, as well.
The simple drawer is supported by a thin oak board, only very crudely finished. A single wooden pull is attached to the outer edge of the drawer.
Six boards, joined in pairs, make up the large three-element top, which is joined together with hand-forged butt and butterfly hinges.
English, ca. 1680
