Simple, yet elegant, this table has a large rectangular top with thumbnail moulding on three sides. The front and sides have an applied moulding at the lower edge. The undecorated back of top and apron indicate that it was intended to stand against a wall.

The slender legs are sparingly shaped, terminating in small ball feet, and the lovely cross-stretchers are attractively shaped.

The wide drawer is dovetailed at the front (probably for strength), while the back of the drawer is simply butted and nailed.

The lovely brass pulls are appropriate replacements in the original locations. Behind the heart-shaped escutcheon is a working lock.

English, ca. 1690

Top: 31 ¼” X 18”; Height: 29”
