A late 19th century rendering of an early 17th century stool. The four turned legs are carved in a fluted cup-and-cover pattern, and the apron stretchers are decorated with a simple moulded detail at the lower edge. The lower stretchers were left plain. The frame is secured with 24 pegs, two for each tenon joint in the apron, one for the stretchers. The single-board top has a thumbnail moulding around its perimeter and is pegged to the base.
The stool is sturdy and has excellent color.
English, ca. 1880
Dimensions: 17 ½” X 10 ¾”; height: 18 ½”
