The face of this unassuming little coffer is decorated with a shallow-carved lozenge in each of its three panels. The four corners of each panel are filled with a pair of concentric circles enclosing rosettes. Planed channels on each rail and stile of the face are decorated with punch carving throughout. The single panel sides and two panel back are left plain. The two-board lid has been braced inside with cleats and is still held in place by its original cotter pin hinges.
The coffer is in very good condition, with its till and full exceptional height.
English, ca. 1690
Lid: 44 ½” X 18”; Height: 25 ¾”
