A striking cupboard with a copiously moulded face and four simply framed doors. The stop fluting of the front pilasters and the moulding enclosing the frieze, doors, and drawer are its only decorative elements, reflecting the austerity of religious life in late 17th-century Holland. In contrast to this plain exterior the interior has been painted a brilliant teal, adding a pleasing, though perhaps irreverent, accent.

The drawer is side hung, and the cupboard stands on two ball feet and two stiles at the rear. These latter have been reinforced. Each door is fitted with its own key, and the drawer has a turned knob.

Excellent surface and pleasing chestnut color.

Holland, 1720 – 40

Width (mouldings): 39”; Depth: 16 ½”; Height: 54 ⅛”
