Late 17th-century oak bible box with carved face

A lidded oak box with running guilloche carving on its face and applied moulding at the base. The lid is reinforced at its edges with cleats, which provide both strength and closure. The lid is held in place by forged strap hinges, replacements for the originals. The single board lid has a brief family history handwritten on its underside.

Given as a gift to Jonathan Friedman from his friend, noted collector George Way
