A large chest, with drawers of varying sizes and applied decoration of varied configuration. Built in two sections, as many chests of the time were, since stairways were often narrow and challenging, this is a handsome and very useful piece of furniture. Each of the bottom three drawers is decorated with two octagons formed by a planed moulding, while the top drawer is decorated in a similar fashion but in rectangular shapes. This type of decoration was common during the period, and it is pleasing to observe the various patterns employed by the joiners who produced these pieces. The four drawers are side hung, and their rails and channels have been restored, probably in the mid to late 20th century. The brass pulls appear to be replacements matching the placement and style of the originals. The stile feet have been tipped, and the back of the upper portion appears to have been appropriately restored.
