A Georgian 15k gold ring with a foiled, black-dot*, cushion-cut rock crystal quartz stone , closed-back set as a solitaire in a crimped silver top, with gold backed mounting.
A good weight D-shaped gold band joins the crystal mount at the shoulders.
This ring is English, and is currently a size 7 – 7 ½.
*The "black-spot/black-dot" pastes are so named because jewelers in the 1700's, and earlier, would occasionally rub a spot (dot) of black, pitch-like paint across the flat cut or pointed bottom of the culet of faceted paste or crystal stones. It was sometimes used to create the look of mine-cut or European-cut diamonds or gemstones when the stone was viewed from the top.
