This lovely ring has been set closed-back with a stepped octagonal-cut blue sapphire paste stone crimped in gold. There is a 13-stone, black-dot* diamond paste halo surround closed-set in silver with a gold back. The gold 8mm shank is decorated with cyma scrolls and bosses at the shoulders, tapering to a plain 3mm back.

Approximately a size 9 on a grooved mandrel, 7 ½ to 8 non-grooved mandrel.

Has a wonderful presence.

* The "black-spot/black-dot" pastes are so named because the jewelers in the 1700's, and earlier, would sometimes rub a spot (or dot) of black, pitch-like paint across the flat cut or pointed bottom of the culet (under) of some faceted paste stones. It was often used to create the look of mine cut or European cut diamonds or gemstones when the stone was viewed from the top (or table).
