Pair of Stuart crystal* earrings, commemorative of Charles II, who reigned from 1660 - 1685. These crystals are in remarkably good condition, created in both silver and gold. They have been closed-back set with sparkling, lovely square (11mm) almost ‘Asscher-cut’ faceted Stuart crystals, with two cuts to the girdle. The crystals are in a rub-over collet setting in silver over a rosy foil, fine gilded embossed initials with gadrooned rope border cut directly in the crystal which appear as entwined C’s, the monogram of Charles II, all visible between the foil and the crystal. The gold shepherd’s crook earwires go in from the front of the ear. The measurement from the top of the earwire is 15/16” and the earrings are in fine condition. You will be wearing history.

*Stuart crystal jewelry was first introduced as commemorative of Charles I of England who died in 1649. These crystals continued to be worn by Stuart supporters through to the death of Queen Anne in 1714, the last Stuart monarch. This type of crystal work was created in England as wonderful Stuart memento mori pieces. English, 17th century. Charles II (May 29, 1630 – February 6, 1685) reigned from the Restoration until his death.
