Posy rings were often used to convey personal, private sentiments from one person to another, a ring being a very intimate gift, worn next to the skin, often on the ring finger of the left hand. This wonderful, buttery high carat gold posy, circa late 1600’s, is inscribed in italic script with the motto: This & the giver is thine forever. This inscription is recorded in English Posies and Posy Rings, by Dame Joan Evans, (London, 1931).

A D-shaped band, 3mm in width, measures at 7 ½, a very good size.
