This wonderful Georgian giardinetti (‘little garden’) ring was made in high k gold gold and set with asymmetric floral/leaf motifs.
In the 1700’s the naturalistic taste for light and elegant jewelry--openwork settings using relatively small stones in the form of flowers and foliation--was very fashionable. This ring has been closed-back set with an emerald paste, two pink topaz stones, 1 table-cut and 13 rose-cut diamonds, in a foliated design of flowers and leaves.
The central mounting measures ¾” x ½”, and the entire verso is gold. The diamonds are set in silver, the colored stones, in gold.
The central floral mount is joined at the shoulders with a bifurcated terminations on a D-shaped gold shank, which allows for sizing.
The giardinetti is very lovely and is currently a size 7 ½.
English, late 1700’s.
A very lovely ring.
