These unusual earrings are quite wonderful. They were fashioned in gold and closed-back set with a rose-cut garnet in a teardrop shape. They have rounded backs, which are typical of Georgian pieces, and are bezel-set in a beaded trim with a flat gold surround. They have hinged backwires with wig-ears, or stops, and go in through the back of the ear. These earrings measure 1” from the top of the wig-ear to the bottom and are ½” at their widest point. Purchased in England, these are very beautiful earrings
