A wonderful Georgian harlequin gilt necklace created with 13, closed-back set, foiled and faceted paste teardrop stones in various gem colors: three pink topaz, three garnet, two citrine, one ruby, one emerald, one aqua, one sapphire, and amethyst as the pendant drop - a stunning combination. The necklace measures 9 inches and has been joined at the last link on each side by a gilt beaded chain, bringing the overall length to 18 ¼” inches.

Found and purchased in England. We have never had the opportunity to purchase a necklace like it.

There are two examples on pages 90-91 of Dawes and Collings Georgian Jewellery 1714 – 1830. Here is the paragraph describing this type of jewel. ‘Harlequin jewels Harlequin was the adjective used to describe the fashion for combining dissimilar but complementary colored stones in necklaces, bracelets, earrings, brooches, and rings in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Colorful and attractive, harlequin jewels were usually foiled and were sometimes set with pastes rather than gemstones.’
