This piece of children’s history was created in silver repoussé and fitted with a piece of finger coral. It would have been hung from a ribbon around a child’s neck to be used as a pacifier and occasionally as a whistle, though the latter no longer functions. The silver whistle section of floral decoration has a hanging link above a ribbed section. The wide mid-section has two of its three fancy repoussé bells, (one has been lost ) and another ribbed division. The pacifier section has floral decoration and holds the coral. The overall length is 3 ⅜”, the width is 1 ¼”. This unusual piece of history dates from the late 18th century and may also now be worn as a pendant.
