This is an elegant silver heart-shaped Hovedvandsaeg, or vinaigrette locket has a hinged lid and elegant, engraved initials design on the front “J S S “. The locket has a hanging loop and a short chain. The verso is engraved 1822.

The heart is suspended from a ribbon or could easily hang from a chain. There are no hallmarks, so it possibly may be silver plated. The height is 3 ¼”, the width is 1 ¼”.

It is a lovely piece in beautiful condition with only slight scratches from gentle use. This Scandinavian love token is a great collector’s piece for its historic use as a gift given to a new bride as a vessel for her perfumed natural sponge. Not often found.
