This buckle is glorious! It was created in steel, and the moving parts are in good order. It measures 3” across, and 2 ¾” high. The verso is silver, and the entire rim is set with eight faceted, foiled paste stones in a pattern of four-petalled flowers, followed by four rectangular rose-cut stones all silver set. The inner and outer bands are gold over silver. It came with a tag from Gebelein-Boston Silversmiths and Jewelers, 79 Chestnut St. at the foot of Beacon Hill, Boston. Belonged to Col. Wm. Hughes of Welsh ancestry, him born in Woolwich, England. He had a brother Samuel, a Canadian official.
