1600’s 22k gold enameled clasp on necklace of graduated pearls

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The rectangular clasp on this three-strand graduated pearl necklace dates from the 1600’s.

It was created in 22k gold and enameled in black and white on the face.

The raised design is a central quatrefoil, within another quatrefoil, surrounded by leaves and arabesques, each decorated in enamel. The verso is undecorated.

The clasp closes by sliding in the flattened tongue and opens by pressing on the springs on the sides of the enameled section.

There are three strands of small baroque shaped pearls graduating from 3-7mm and terminate in French wire.

The necklace measures 17-1/2” overall.
